The National Archives preserves and provides access to the records of the Federal Government. Here is a sample of these records, from our most celebrated milestones to little-known surprises. You will find the original Declaration of Independence, The Constitution, The BIll of Rights, and also documents like Elvis's Letter to President Nixon and Apollo 11's Flight Plan. It's a wonderful resource of primary documentation for you and your students.
If you explore a bit further you will find an array of historical photographs to use in your teaching or for students to use in their presentations.
